The Taj Mahal, Agra, India

by Kelvin Seet on Jul.29, 2009, under Travels

The Taj Mahal, itself so famous a monument that I do not need to speak much about it! :)

I went to New Delhi last week and decided to join 5 of my colleagues for this road trip. Surprisingly, the roads were well laid out most of the way and although we did pass through typical indian towns with traffic lights that were not working, skinny cows that were wandering about and endless sounding of horns, the 4 hours journey was quite pleasant!

When we arrived at the Taj Mahal, the tour guide provided some insights into the place (information that was easily found online) and then let us roam freely. So that’s what we did and seeing the Taj Mahal for ourselves was really a sight to behold, especially against clear blue skies with a relatively nice daytime temperature of 34-35 degrees celsius. ;) Really nothing to complain as it was during the monsoon season and we had such perfect weather!

We wandered about, finding the perfect tourist angles and then entered the replica tomb to take a look. Although its a wonder of the world, there really isn’t much to do other than taking photos and admiring the gem-studded marble structure.

Here are the photos that I have taken and do hope that you’ll like them!

Piazza del Duomo, Milan, Italy

by Kelvin Seet on Mar.18, 2009, under Travels

This was actually my second visit to this place, the first during my honeymoon when I did not really have the luxury of time to shoot the place as I was on a package tour, so this time I made sure I did! :)

Piazza Del Duomo is the most popular Square in Milan where the Duomo di Milano stands proudly and strikingly. When you first set eyes on this gothic cathedral, the stark contrast of its spiked facade against the classical structures (housing a shopping paradise nearby) creates a sense of childlike wonder in one’s spirit. The white marble structure is an astoundingly beautiful cathedral that you must really see with your own eyes to appreciate! I dare say that this is one of the most unique cathedrals you can ever see in Europe. There is a lot of history behind this square and the Milan Cathedral but I’m sure that you can find all the information you’ll need from Wikipedia, as with all the other destinations that I have written and photographed about. :)

During this photography trip, I was with 3 of my friends and we took a lot of photos of the church and its surroundings while there was still daylight. However, during sunset, we realised that the setting was much more atmospheric for better photos and shot even more! Hence, you’ll find that most of the photos published here would be shot during that time. I strongly encourage anyone who will be visiting the place, to be there during sunset as the lighting is simply wonderful for photography!

Here they are! Do leave me your comments! I do miss them! :P

Leaning Tower of Pisa, Pisa, Italy

by Kelvin Seet on Nov.06, 2008, under Travels

When I was young, very young, I read about the Leaning Tower of Pisa. How it leans to the side and how Galileo did his bowling bowl experiment…

When I was older, a bit older, I read more about how it actually leans and why…

When I was older a lot more, with training in Structural Engineering, I watched Discovery Channel and studied why it leans and how it may collapse at any time, as the soil below was too soft to sustain its weight…

When I finally made a long awaited trip to Italy, I finally saw it with my own bare shimmering eyes. The Leaning Tower of Pisa. I touched the Tower, “held up” the Tower, jumped for joy on the very soil it stood on, took so many photos of it, with it…

And here are my memories of the Leaning Tower of Pisa
