GUM (State Department Store), Moscow, Russia

I was in Moscow for a short visit and decided to drop by the Red Square for a bit of sightseeing. It was quite cold at that time with a temperature of -2 degrees Celsius and the moderately strong winds didn’t help. Whilst wandering about, it got too cold for my group and we decided to seek the warmth of a nearby shopping centre on one side of the square. It was the GUM.
The GUM. It sounds very exotic and it truly is! It stands for Glavnyi Universalnyi Magazin and is one of the major high-end shopping centres in Moscow and it has a very unique architecture. It was quite quiet during the time that I was there as it was sometime near midday on a working day. Once my hands were warm enough, I went to the top floor and shot this image and it turned out to be truly striking!
